Best Quality Vitamin C Supplements

Vitamin C can be found in a range of fruits and vegetables. The most common being oranges. If you are eating a healthy diet that includes fresh fruits and vegetables, there is a good chance that you are taking in enough vitamin C.  However if you are not, you may want to take vitamin C supplements.

It is important that you do not take too much vitamin C supplements as this could cause more harm than good to your body. Adults need at least 40mg of vitamin C a day and no more than 1,000mg of vitamin C supplements a day. Anything more than that could lead to headaches, stomach pains, diarrhoea and trouble sleeping . The body does not store vitamin C so it is important that you include it in your diet every day .

There are 3 types of vitamin C which are sodium acerbate, ascorbic acid and calcium ascorbate and all 3 are very important in their own right. Most vitamin C supplements only contain ascorbic acid. Ascorbic acid is only the outer layer of the complete vitamin C complex. It is synthesized from corn syrup, therefore you are likely to be taking a supplement with GMO.

There has been tests on some vitamin C supplements that have revealed that 20% of them contained more vitamin C than stated on the label. Also some vitamin C supplements that claim to be natural are not really natural. Most synthetic supplements come with artificial flavours and colours which can be detrimental to your health so it is important that when choosing supplements that you choose ones that do not contain artificial colours and flavours.

The following are the ingredients to avoid:

  • Artificial flavours
  • Artificial colours
  • Vegetable magnesium Stearate
  • Carrageenan
  • Sucrose
  • Sucralose (Splenda)

Do you know if there is an additional charge on Amazon for shipping to the US for this brand?

  2. Ah the famous Vitamin C, lovely piece of information right here! You clearly know what you’re talking about.

It’s true that it’s a water-soluble vitamin as it doesn’t get stored in the body. It gets excreted by the urine instead – the unneeded amount that is. Also I really liked how you highlighted some of the artificial substances, commonly added to Vitamin C supplements.

    1. An overdose is often as a result of excess supplementation rather than overconsumption of the vitamin through your diet. In other words you can eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and not overdose on vitamin C, but when taking supplements make sure you stick to 40mg-1,000mg a day. Yes your wife is right.
